Best Wine Opener – Introduction

by Nick on June 2, 2010

Hi, this is my first post on my first blog of the Best Wine Opener, where I intend to post many reviews on wine openers of all kinds. By the way, I’m Nick, and I like a glass of wine after dinner.

Now why have I decided to write this blog? Because when I shopped online for a wine opener, I wished I could find good reviews for many models of wine openers in one place, with plenty of tips, comparison and guides for choosing the best wine opener as well.

Then I realized that many people probably thought the same thing, but few would really do it themselves, despite the fact that they could. So here’s my blog and I hope it will help all of you find the perfect wine opener suitable for you.

The wine opener, or the corkscrew, is a very common accessory in the kitchens of us wine lovers. In fact we might have several of them in the kitchen drawers, often because we can’t find the perfect wine opener yet.

There are so many types of wine openers available, like:

  • rabbit wine opener or lever wine opener;
  • Screwpull® wine opener;
  • electric wine opener;
  • butterfly corkscrew;
  • waiter’s corkscrew;
  • ah-so; and
  • CO2 injector/pump

But the simple science of it is: the wine opener is designed so that it inserts a metal helix or worm into the cork, which will lever the cork out through pulling or turning, with the exception of the twin prong cork puller (ah-so) and the CO2 injector or pump.

I always go for those wine openers that are:

  • easy to use, with as little learning curves as possible;
  • needs little hand strength/designed for good leverage; and
  • durable

Others might want anything among these as well:

  • affordable
  • opens bottles fast
  • good looking (elegant/professional looking)
  • compact/portable/small footprint

And so the best wine opener for me might not be the best wine opener for you. I try to write my reviews to highlight the pros and cons of each model, and cover it from a more objective point of view, taking into consideration other reviewers’ opinions as well. So if you find that I’m overly excited in any of my reviews, that model is probably one of my very favorites. :) Good luck finding yours!
